DAY 11 - New Acrylic Tokens Add-On! And check out that Golden Fleece 🐐 ❤️
over 1 year ago – Fri, Apr 21, 2023 at 12:36:12 PM

TL;DR: The Golden Fleece miniature will be included and increased in size for Upgrade/Pantheon backers at no additional charge. The highly requested Acrylic Tokens will now be available as an add-on; see below for how to add them. A closer look at the game tray below. New riddle below.

New Add-On: Acrylic Tokens!

Ever seen an acrylic Whirlpool before?

Of all the requests we've gotten since this campaign began, one of the most popular has been for acrylic versions of the extra tokens that many gods require, such as Aeolus' Wind marker, Charybdis' Whirlpools, and... wait a minute... nobody from the base game used Webs for anything! (Did James spoil something, or had we already released that one? 🤔)

These are available for all editions - Pantheon, Upgrade, and Riddle of the Sphinx - and will also be available in the pledge manager. (Note: backers *will* still get the standard components included in the base game, these are add-ons, not replacements.)

Great! How Do I Add These On?

Here is how to do that on a computer:

Written version for a desktop computer:

  • Go to the main page for this project
  • Go to your pledge level (right side of the screen); when your mouse icon is over the pledge level you selected, click “manage your pledge”
  • On the “Select your reward” page - Select your desired pledge level and then hit the green “Pledge $XX” button.
  • On the “Configure Reward” page – click “Add” for each add-on that you want and select the quantity of that item you want to get.
  • When you’ve selected everything you want, scroll down to the bottom and click “Continue”
  • On the “your new pledge” page, select “Confirm Changes”

Here is how to do that on a mobile device:

Here is the written version for mobile:

  • Go to the main page for this project, select the rewards tab
  • Scroll down to your pledge level, click the green “manage your pledge” button
  • On the “Change your reward” page – scroll down and click “change your pledge”
  • On the “Select your reward” page select your desired pledge level and then hit the green "Pledge $XX” button
  • On the “Configure Reward” page – click “Add” for each add-on that you want and select the quantity of that item you want to get.
  • When you’ve selected everything you want, scroll down to the bottom and click “Continue”
  • On the “your new pledge” page, select “Confirm Changes”

Can I just wait to do this in the pledge manager?  Yes! You can. If you forgot or simply don't want to do it right now, that is a-ok. You will be able to adjust your pledge and add on in the pledge manager just the same.

MIDAS! Stop Touching The Animals!

Great news! We're happy to confirm that the much-requested Golden Fleece token WILL be included in Santorini Pantheon and that, as a bonus to our backers, it will be increased in size to match the new Pantheon workers at no extra charge!

A Closer Look At The Tray

Tray bon, n'est-ce pas?

We've had some questions about the Pantheon / Upgrade tray, so to help make things more clear, here's a close-up of the prototype! As you can see in this top-down view, the lowest level of the tray is nearly flat and exists to help keep the 3D island in place, making room for the block and dome caddies to the right and above. The workers and cards have their own dedicated spaces inside the island itself, with plenty of room in the worker tray for additional tokens.

 We're Back In Semi-Coop!

Roxley's been featured in Semi-Coop several times before this, and we're super happy to have brought Rachel and Heinze back to Santorini for another visit! (Hopefully, they make it home uneaten...)

And The Next Riddle Is...

Many of you had the right idea for the last riddle, with many guesses for snow, ice, clouds, and similar answers - which are all technically true, given as they are different forms of the correct response. So... half point for everybody?

But our congratulations go out to Relonnor for being the first to guess the intended answer: WATER!

Leave your answers in the comments below!

DAY 8 - Dice Tower Livestream Tomorrow @ 10AM EST! More Gods Revealed!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Apr 18, 2023 at 11:18:05 AM

TL;DR, tune in tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10 AM EDT to The Dice Tower's Spring Spectacular for a live play of Riddle of the Sphinx and Marvel Dice Throne. The 'missing' unlocked gods from the weekend are revealed below. New riddle below.

We're back early with a bonus update! SURPRISE!

The Missing Reveals

First off - here are the four gods that we confirmed over the weekend would be added to the game via Funding Quest:

Prototype render only - final may vary.

The Three-Body Problem

When we originally published Santorini, we advertised it as primarily designed for a two-player experience. Santorini works just fine mechanically with three, but it can sometimes have what is commonly called a ‘kingmaker’ problem - e.g., in a game between players A, B, & C, player “A” might find themself in a position where they cannot win the game, but their move decides whether or not player B or C is going to win instead. (While some players are fine with this, many find it a distasteful experience.)

Gord (and the rest of the Santorini team) has spent the last several years working on this problem. Most of our best solutions are now included in the expansion cards as Mode cards, new variations on how the game is played that greatly increase Santorini’s replayability.

But some of these solutions instead resulted in entirely new gods!

Any of the new gods (including all four in the graphic above) that use the new Santorini dice in their powers are especially good for three-player games, as making a move that “forces” an opponent to make a move to prevent another player’s victory is no longer a reliable strategy, but instead now a push-your-luck decision. Here’s one great example:

Prototype render only - final may vary.

#StayTuned for more of the awesome new members of the Pantheon as we continue to unlock them!

OK, Riddle Us THIS...

We tried changing up our style on you for the last one... but it was, once again, no challenge to our once-again brilliant backers.

The intended answer to the riddle was A KNIFE, first submitted by Tim Procita approximately two hours after the update was posted.

HOWEVER, the Sphinx has also agreed to accept the most popular answer, BREAD, first submitted by Morgan Kurtz mere seconds after the update was posted, as an equally logical solution.

So as far as we’re concerned, you both get bragging rights this time around. Congratulations, Tim Procita & Morgan Kurtz!

The Sphinx is, of course, back for more. Help us continue to avoid being eaten by submitting your responses below!

Upcoming Content

The time is here for The Dice Tower's Spring Spectacular! Be sure to join in on Wednesday at 10 am EDT to see The Riddle of the Sphinx live in action, along with the wildly popular Marvel Dice Throne!

We’ll be there in the livestream comments answering any questions that pop up about the game, so pour yourself a hot cuppa and join us for a great time!

DAY 7 - Livestream w/ One Stop Coop Shop TONIGHT at 9PM EST! More Unlocks, A New Riddle + Cuteness Overload!
over 1 year ago – Mon, Apr 17, 2023 at 01:58:45 PM

TL;DR: Livestream - One Stop Coop Shop, TONIGHT at 9 PM EST. 4 More gods, The Wanderer unique sculpt, and box embossing unlocked. New Riddle below - and prepare yourself for some AWWWWWWWW! <3

Where's The New Funding Quests?

Our graphics wizard had a family issue today, and we try to prioritize that kind of thing at Roxley, so the FQ graphic will be updated a bit later (probably a few hours after this update). They're still being worked on behind the scenes, don't worry - details are coming soon!

We hope you’ve all had a marvelous weekend! While some rested and recovered from a busy week, the Santorini backer community has been busy unlocking Funding Quests! We smashed through The Wanderer red worker custom sculpt for Riddle of the Sphinx, the fancy schmancy embossing for both the Pantheon Edition and Riddle of the Sphinx boxes, and unlocked four more new God cards for the included expansion packs!

Four Greek gods walk into a bar...

Let’s meet the new arrivals:

Helios brings the golden shimmer of the sun via his golden chariot drawn by a quartet of winged steeds! What high-flying hijinks could Helios be bringing to Santorini?

Agamemnon is large and powerful, with armies under his command. How will this hero of the Trojan War impact the Santorini battlefield?

Typhon brings the monstrosity of the underworld to the surface of Santorini’s skyline! Will the peaceful workers of our wonderful game be left trembling in their sandals?

Pleiades isn’t just the companion of Artemis but is also capable of lighting the night sky with a unique brilliance. How will this sisterly nymph rain down upon our blue-domed towers?

AWWWWWWW....

Backer James Carus sent us this incredible message, and we just had to share it with you.

Hey, I just wanted to fire this over as I thought the team would appreciate it. My partner and I love Santorini, and after welcoming our daughter into the world in the latter end of 2022, we decided to have some professional photos taken. One of the props that we took with us was out KS version of Santorini, which the photographer zeroed in on due to the art style. I figured you guys might like to see the results!

OK, no joke caption on this one. Our hearts are officially melted. <3

To further discombobulate Team Roxley this week, here's a longtime friend and backer of ours, Zaak Robichaud, playing Santorini with his son Blaise... followed by a recreation of that same image seven years later:

RIDDLE US THIS!

Well, it didn't take long - seven minutes! - for backer, Dayton to answer the last update's riddle correctly, A NEEDLE.

The Sphinx wouldn’t lower herself to terms like “smarty pants,” but with all the quick-witted backers tackling these riddles in record time, she’s clearly feeling tempted to let loose!

Can you beat the 7-minute timeline from our previous update? Post your answers below!

NEXT STOP, SANTORINI!

The One Stop Coop Shop will be live streaming a play of Riddle of the Sphinx TONIGHT at 9 pm EST. Be sure to subscribe to their channel so you don’t miss it when the fun begins!

Whether you’ve been with us from launch day or are just climbing the tower's steps today, we appreciate your presence, comments, feedback, and suggestions!

We’ll be back with another update on Wednesday, and until then…

Keep rollin' sixes!

DAY 4 - Box Art, Spot UV, & Bigger Workers! 2PM EST Livestream with BoardGameCo! Plus: FREE PICKLES!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Apr 14, 2023 at 10:10:46 AM

TL;DR: Three new FQ's unlocked - inside box art, bigger workers, and spot UV coating. Livestream with BoardGameCo at 2 PM EST. Santorini designer Dr. Gordon Hamilton launches The Infinite Pickle; a collection of math puzzles PLUS New Riddle below.

SO MANY UNLOCKS!

If this guy says he won, we aren't going to argue with him.

After such a great launch, we're able to announce the completion of no less than THREE of our Funding Quests! Check them out below:

Inner Box Art - Pantheon / Upgrade Editions

We do not recommend turning your old box inside out to try to achieve this.

As a tribute to the original edition, Mr. Cuddington's beloved box art featuring Poseidon and Aphrodite playing Santorini will be added to the inside box cover of every Pantheon and Upgrade pledge!

Worker Size Increase - Pantheon Edition

This also increases the worker's confidence by at least 35%.

To enhance the visual presence of the miniatures and better show off their detail, the workers in the Pantheon Edition will be increased in size by 8% (from an 18mm base to a 19.5mm base). This will make them more durable as well as easier to see amongst the building and domes of the island!

Spot UV Box Enhancement - All Pledge Levels

(Rendered prototype. Final may vary. Final may also be an actual 3d object instead of an image on your computer screen.)

The art for the Pantheon, Upgrade, and Riddle Of The Sphinx boxes will now be spot treated with a luxurious UV coating on selected elements of the art to make it literally shine in your collection!

What Is An Infinite Pickle?

Meet Dr. Gordon Hamilton, aka Gord!, the designer of Santorini and the creator of MathPickle:

Would you trust this man with your pickle?

In addition to being a game designer and an educator, Gord creates puzzles for classes and families, challenging students to use their mathematical skills to find better solutions to what he calls "Infinite Pickles".

An Infinite Pickle is an open-ended math problem, which might be solved already... but still may have a better solution out there waiting to be discovered! And one of Gord's greatest thrills is when - as he describes on his page - a classroom of elementary students finds better solutions than the ones the professionals have found so far!

This brings us to:

It's kind of a big dill.

Gord has assembled 14 of his favorite Infinite Pickles into a book he wants you to have - and he wants this so much that he's willing to GIVE it to you.

That's right - if you're a funding-challenged educator, a homeschooler on a budget, or just someone who likes a good puzzle, you can download the Infinite Pickle in PDF format, completely free, at MathPickle.com.

However - if you'd like the book assembled into a beautifully bound, physical copy, Gord is now taking pledges for it HERE.

While this is not a Roxley product, we'd obviously be overjoyed to see him get some love from our community - and to help get some of these wonderful pickles out into the hands of students and puzzle lovers everywhere.

So... WHO WANTS PICKLES?

THIS AFTERNOON - LIVE PLAY with BoardGameCo!

Want to see more of Santorini: Riddle of the Sphinx? Join BoardGameCo THIS AFTERNOON at 2 pm EST for MORE live playthrough action! WOOHOO!!!

The Sphinx Has Returned!

Congratulations go out to backer John Cook for being the first of many to correctly deduce the answer to the previous riddle, A CANDLE, a mere five minutes after it was posted (and barely before close competitors E.M. and Brendon)!

There appear to be some very smart people in these comment sections! This is good because the Sphinx is back again and looking as hungry as ever. Her first riddle was solved in six minutes. Her second was solved in only five.

How long will it take you to figure this one out?

What am I?

Drop your guess into the comments below, and we'll be back on Monday to confirm the answer!

NOTE: As discussed previously in the comments, the answers to all of the Sphinx's riddles will be considered "safe for work" (although not necessarily safe for the answerer). They will also be something that could exist in the world of Santorini, e.g. no steam engines, cellular phones, or internet memes.

We made it to the weekend! See you all on MONDAY!

Keep rollin' sixes!

Day 2 - Livestream Tonight With Salt & Sass + Unique Worker Sculpts & a new Riddle!
over 1 year ago – Wed, Apr 12, 2023 at 12:33:41 PM

TL;DR - Unique Worker Sculpts Unlocked! Livestream of Riddle of the Sphinx tonight with Salt & Sass! Preview of Scenario 1 below, plus Riddle solutions and a new Riddle!

What an amazing day one! From the bottom of our ancient mythological hearts, thank you for your enthusiastic day-one support of Santorini. Since the project launched, over 3700 backers have joined our tower-building team, raising over half a million Canadian dollars to bring Dr. Hamilton’s creation to new heights!

Let’s have a look at today's unlock!

Themed Worker Miniatures

Team Brains vs. Team Brawn...?
"What? I'm on my break!"
Sisyphus: The Early Years

Designer James Van Niekerk’s work on Skyrise was so amazing that we just had to see what else he could do with Santorini! Now that Funding Quest #2 has been achieved, every set of workers in every Pantheon Edition will come with two beautiful custom sculpts at no extra charge.  We're so stoked to have these additional worker designs to illustrate the fantastic world of Santorini further!

Spotlight: Sunshine & Seashores!

For nearly seven years, players of all ages and experience levels have been enjoying Santorini - and one of the reasons for this is that it is so easily accessible. The rules can literally be explained in 30 seconds, and just like riding a bike, once you know how to play, you never forget it!

To ensure that people have a similarly smooth experience learning the Riddle Of The Sphinx, Team Roxley has crafted an introductory scenario to walk players through the Sphinx’s first scenario, or "riddle," Sunshine & Seashores! Here's a sneak peek for you now:

Step 0: Ensure your Sphinx has been fed recently.

Everything from the game setup, the turn structure, to how you play each individual turn is described here. Experienced (and brave) players are of course, free to skip past it, directly into the deep end of the cooperative gaming pool - but for those who are new to the campaign, Sunshine & Seashores is here to soothe any allergies you may have to rulebooks, and will gently guide you through your first game, like an old friend with a cozy cup of tea!

Riddle Of The Sphinx Live Playthrough With Salt & Sass!

Which one's Salt, & which one's Sass? Guess we have to tune in to find out!

Do you want to see Santorini: Riddle Of The Sphinx being played live? Sure you do! Coming up at 7 pm EST on Wednesday, April 12th - that’s TONIGHT! - our friends Mandi and Suzanne will be playing the game on Tabletop Simulator on the Salt & Sass Twitch Channel! Be sure to subscribe to their channel to be notified when the stream begins!

Riddle Solutions - And A New Riddle!

Good news - Our brilliant backers have met the Sphinx’s riddle challenge - and defeated her, so our design team remains uneaten! (For now.)

Many of you figured out almost immediately that the answer to the first riddle had something to do with water... but the first person to get the official answer, WAVES, was the appropriately-named EpicFTW (beating out Jon Biscoe and Mmag by literally 1 minute each). Congratulations EpicFTW on your victory!

The riddle from the campaign video was a bit more of a stumper, and we got many creative and clever answers, such as Time, Life, Darkness, and Breath. The first person to hit the correct answer was Emilio Venditti, with A GAME. Congratulations, Emilio!

We’re so grateful for everybody who helped fend us off the hungry Sphinx for another 24 hours... unfortunately for us, she’s back, and has brought another challenge for your brilliant backer brains:

What am I?

Leave your solutions in the comments below!

Once again, thank you for joining us in these first exciting days of the campaign! We’ll be back again before the week is out!

Keep rollin' sixes!
