Golden Fleece Insights from Gord!

Santorinians, Welcome Back!

We're currently in a "no news" cycle this week, but rather than share an update that basically says "no news is good news", we're taking this one in a slightly different direction. Enjoy!

The development of each and every Roxley project is absolutely a team effort, but there is always one MVP behind each game, and that's the original designer.

In the case of Santorini, that is designer Gord Hamilton. His original design was crafted all the way back in 2004, long before his Math Pickle resource website was launched!

The original prototype of Santorini!

As you may recall from the campaign, Santorini: Pantheon Edition comes with 12 wonderful new mode cards. You can use a mode card to set up a substantially fun and different way to play Santorini! Designing these modes has been a blast, and so we asked designer Gord Hamilton to comment on the new and improved Golden Fleece:

One of my favourite uses of the die is from Paul Saxberg's ingenious idea to get the Golden Fleece to move!

The original Golden Fleece mode had some issues that prevented it from becoming a fan favourite. That will now change. At the beginning of each turn, the Golden Fleece rolls a die... the player takes their turn. The Golden Fleece then scampers to the first unoccupied space in the direction indicated by the die roll. Whether you can use your god power depends on whether you're adjacent to this lively ram. This is one of the biggest improvements in Pantheon.

We'll return in approximately two weeks with the latest information on the production journey of both Santorini: Pantheon Edition and Riddle of the Sphinx.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and feedback, and until next time...

Keep rollin' sixes!

Scenario Sneak Peek: Ward Off The Beast
about 2 months ago – Fri, Mar 22, 2024 at 08:53:48 AM

Greetings, Santorinians!

Today's update will be focused on a new sneak peek at a previously-unrevealed scenario entitled Ward Off The Beast.

We're pleased to report that our photographer has received samples of the latest plastic components and will be taking some professional shots for us to share in an upcoming update. Three cheers for pretty pictures!

Now, let's turn our attention to that beastly Sphinx!

Scenario Sneak Peek

In Ward Off The Beast you have ambitious building goals on the top and bottom corners of the map, but what makes this riddle particularly unique is the Sphinx's presence on the map. She will dance circles of destruction, round and round the outer perimeter. If she comes upon any unfinished building or worker, she will destroy them, so players must build with haste to complete their objective coins before the Sphinx devastates their progress!

This is also the first scenario with the concept of attacking in it. There are a number of scenarios that provide the players with Kratos' god power, as a passive ability. Kratos allows you to spend a dome from your stockpile to attack a nearby space, either destroying a building piece there, or in this case, damaging the Sphinx. If you can combo Kratos with a good movement ability, you can position yourself directly behind the Sphinx to deal double damage with your attack.

If you play this scenario for gold, you wont be bothered with attacking the Sphinx.

But If you play for Heroic (or even Godlike!), you will be challenged not only to build your objectives, but give the Sphinx a good wholloping along the way!

We'll return with our next update in April, and as always, we look forward to reading and responding to your campaign comments on a weekly basis.

Until next time...

Keep rollin' sixes!

Progress Report: Mode Cards, Miniatures, and More!
2 months ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2024 at 10:11:29 AM

Greetings, Santorinians!

We're genuinely grateful for the incredible support, questions, and comments we've received following our previous update on the Santorini fulfillment timeline. While we diligently work on the various aspects of Santorini: Pantheon Edition and Riddle of the Sphinx, we're committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. As mentioned in our last post, we anticipate that fulfillment will begin in the Fall of 2024 (Q4 2024), and we will continue to keep you updated as we have more precise information on estimated production and fulfillment milestone dates.

In the meantime, here are the current items that have seen significant advancements over the previous two weeks:

Mode Cards: Over the last week, a primary development focus has been finalizing the great new Mode Cards for Santorini: Pantheon Edition. Watch for examples of these cards to pop up in a future update!

Miniature Samples: We have many plastic samples arriving and are preparing them for final review, followed by some fresh photos.

Santorini Turntable: We've also seen significant progress with the turntable, which now has molded plastic and is being fine-tuned for finishing.

We look forward to sharing some new visuals in the next update! Thank you for your ongoing trust and support, and until next time...

Keep rollin' sixes!

Timeline Update & Scenario Sneak Peek!
3 months ago – Fri, Feb 23, 2024 at 10:53:10 AM

Greetings, Santorinians!

Today, we're excited to bring you another sneak peek of the Riddle of the Sphinx scenario. But first, we need to share some news on the delivery timeline for this project.

Our original timeline called for fulfillment to begin in April/May 2024. However, as our development journey unfolded, it became clear that additional time and attention would be required. At Roxley, our unwavering objective has always been to deliver nothing short of top tier products across the entire tabletop industry to our supporters, backers, and fans. And for those reasons, we have decided to recalibrate our fulfillment schedule.

While we're currently discussing with our manufacturing partner to finalize the timeline, we anticipate that fulfillment will commence in the Fall of 2024. We understand any feelings of frustration caused by this adjustment, and we are more than willing to address any concerns or queries you may have in the comments section of this update.

As always, thank you for your support. Now, let's turn our attention to Riddle of the Sphinx and its most recent developments!

New Addition: Thematic Story Text

Last week, our team was refining some of the introduction text for each riddle, and we came up with a great and thematic new formatting for all the story text in Riddle of the Sphinx.

Each story has now been rewritten as a four-line rhyming poem. They each stand alone and present an introduction to the riddle's theme, but can also be read together in sequence to present a broader story. We are very excited about this, as it is fun to read and feels on brand with the world of Santorini and the theme of riddles in this book.

Also New: Blessing Deck

Since the Kickstarter campaign, our development of Riddle of the Sphinx has caused us to add a new mechanic called Blessings.

Blessings are a unique deck of 1-off powers. Nearly every map features three blessing tokens, and when you end your move on one of them, you can pick up the token and add a blessing card to the god deck. Blessing cards that get revealed in the queue can be used instantly for their power without consuming your turn. Notably, every blessing has a unique primary power, and a default backup power that allows you a reroll. So you can always count on blessings for some luck mitigation, among their many other uses.

Scenario Sneak Peek: Silence from the Gods

The riddle Silence from the Gods is the first in a sequence of riddles telling a story about Mount Olympus.

In this story, the gods have gone silent, and shards of the palace of Olympus have rained down across the countryside. The Greek King has commanded our workers to take him up to Olympus to investigate!

Because the gods are silent, this unique riddle does not use ANY god cards. Instead of gaining the bricks you need from gods, you must rebuild each of the shards of Olympus to gain new blessing cards that will provide you the blocks you need for the scenario.

This alone creates a really unique challenge to ponder, but the second challenge is that the King is also on the map. Anytime a building is built next to him, he is moved on top of it! Players must work together to lead the King around the map by building, while collecting the shards of Olympus along the way. To win the riddle, players need to lead the King onto each of the objective coins and ultimately end with the King on top of the gold coin, so that he can climb the stairwell to Olympus!

It is a very fun scenario that feels really different from every other!
